LOS ANGELES -- To think of a third Tron film without Daft Punk creating the score, potentially propelled again by an 85-piece orchestra, is a scary thought.

Tron: Legacy director Joe Kosinski is attached to the next installment of the Disney franchise that started with Tron in 1982, Mashable confirmed, though it's still unclear whether the French electronic duo will return to compose the soundtrack.

The Kosinski news left fans crossing their fingers for Daft Punk's return:

If Daft Punk doesn't come back for Tron 3, what are we even doing here?— Diego Crespo (@deggowaffles) March 11, 2015

Ooh, another Tron movie in the works. Hopefully Daft Punk returns to score the film. Easily the best part of Tron: Legacy.— Joonas Pikkarainen (@Pjorkkis) March 11, 2015

What we do know is that a source with knowledge of the situation says the film is in development, with Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde likely returning to reprise their respective roles as Sam Flynn and Quorra, a humanoid algorithm that escaped the digital "grid" into the real world at the end of Tron: Legacy. Another mystery is whether Jeff Bridges will come back: His character, Kevin Flynn, was integrated with his evil alterego in Legacy; however, the DVD/Blu-ray extras focused on the search for the computing mogul, including a shot of his son baring a T-shirt that said "Flynn Lives."

But back to the music. The notion of Daft Punk trying to top themselves with an even better soundtrack -- with expectations so high now -- may prevent the duo from signing on again.

If Daft Punk isn't on board (*cue the fans' collective shudder*), here are six potential picks to fill their electronic shoes, in no particular order.
