Artist Danielle Delph often wonders what it would have been like to grow up alongside her mother.

She imagines she and her young mother Janis attending classes together, and wonders if they would have shared the same sense of humor or if others would have deemed them inseparable. Delph explores this daydream in her affectionate series, "If I Had Known My Mother Back Then."

Each photo manipulation shows Delph superimposed into weathered old photos of her mother as a toddler, child and teenager. The series shows she and Janis sharing toys, posing for a school dance and laughing like old friends.

"I think we all wonder if we would have been friends with our parents," Delph tells Mashable. "It was cool to go back and see the similarities that we shared that I would have never seen before."

The series resonated deeply with her mother, who Delph says loved the project.

"It made her cry, and she felt like we would have been friends."
