Now Serving: Dead Frog Salad

Watch your back, kale. There's a new food trend coming for you: dead frog.

Kathryn Lurie, a digital features editor at The Wall Street Journal, tweeted an Instagram picture of her colleague's lunch on Monday, and let's just say there was a little too much protein on this salad.

The image, allegedly of a pre-packaged salad from the food chain Pret a Manger, is equal parts stomach-churning and head-scratching.

Lurie shared the image on her social accounts, but told Mashable that the salad's buyer would like to remain anonymous. The restaurant has not yet responded to a request for comment at time of publishing.

Guys, to be clear, it wasn't my salad. It was a colleague's, and she was pretty shaken, understandably!— Kathryn Lurie (@kathrynlurie) December 30, 2013

Looks like the green food craze may see its final days thanks to our amphibious friend. But on the bright side, at least the salad wasn't chopped. (Sorry.)

UPDATE, Dec. 30, 5:55 p.m. ET: Pret A Manger gave the following statement to Gothamist:

At Pret A Manger, we take issues like this very seriously. Our lettuce is sourced from farms that do not use any pesticides on its produce, therefore organic matter does very rarely manage to pass through our production process. We are currently looking into this issue to make every effort that this does not happen again.
