Startups are having to try even harder these days to get heard above the noise. The latest is TailoredMusic, which has tempted the social news crowd by writing an entire song for Digg (below).

The effort required isn't as great as you might expect: TailoredMusic pitched us a while back on its simple, customizable love songs service. I didn't "get it" at the time, but the Digg demo makes the service self-explanatory: choose from a catalog of songs, customize the lyrics using the text editor and order up an MP3 of your new song, recorded by professional singers. One slightly prohibitive issue here is the cost: $99-$239 for a download, and an extra $50 for a CD. The quality is also variable: the Digg song sounds a little chipmunkish to me, although the others sound good.

Despite offering customization of a product that was previously prohibitively expensive, you can't help feeling that TailoredMusic is fairly un-2.0 - it's hard to find the viral element that will make it take off. Perhaps it's unique enough to spread via word of mouth?
