Drone footage published on Tuesday shows the scale of refugee crisis along Greece's northern border with Macedonia.

Photographer Sakis Gioumpasis captured the tent city that has mushroomed in Idomeni, serving as the home of more than 7,000 migrants and refugees who have come to Europe in search of a better life.

Macedonia recently banned Afghans from entering the country and increased checks for other nationalities.

On Monday, police responded with tear gas and stun grenades when migrants and refugees tried to force their way across the border. The border has been closed since then.

Almost 2,000 refugees and migrants arrived in Europe by sea every day during the first two months of 2016, according to statistics from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) released Tuesday.
