Artist Beautifully Depicts the Stop-Motion Circle of Life

Artist Emma Allen is known for her makeup and body-painting work, serving major clients the likes of Google, MTV and the Saatchi Gallery.

However, in a self-portrait video titled "Ruby," Allen turned the paint brush onto herself. The artist created a short and striking stop-motion film that explores themes like life, death and rebirth.

According to the video's description, the self-portrait illustrates "the transfer of energy from one incarnation to another."

Allen writes that the project took her five days to complete. Armed with only face paints, a mirror and a camera, she shot the video herself.

Though the clip is two months old, the video gained traction after Vimeo labled it a "Staff Pick" on Nov. 8.
