Facebook and the New York State attorney general have reportedly reached a settlement agreement regarding the child safety probe that was initiated a few weeks ago by the state. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo initiated the investigation last month in response to complaints that Facebook wasn't doing enough to protect users from sexual predators. Terms of the settlement were not revealed, but an official statement is expected tomorrow.

This doesn't mean that Facebook is free and clear. There is an ongoing investigation that's been initiated by the attorney general in New Jersey, as well as another investigation from a group of attorneys general representing all 50 states in the US. MySpace underwent a nearly identical situation earlier this year, and cooperated with the authorities to help locate and prosecute sexual predators that were using the social network to find teens.
