LONDON -- A fairy eviction is underway in an English forest.

The trustees of Wayford Woods in Somerset are cracking down on the miniature or "fairy" doors attached to tree trunks in the forest.

Children have been attaching the special doors to trees for the past 15 years because they believe they'll give fairies a way to relocate to the forest. However, it's now gotten out of control, with some trees bedecked with up to 10 doors.

"It's a very complex situation, and nobody's admitting that they're evicting the fairies," trustee Steven Acreman told the BBC. "It's just that fairy control is required, otherwise we'd be covered in fairy doors."

Wayford Woods was part of Wayford Manor an estate with an Elizabethan stone house in the small village of Wayford, near Crewkerne; but over the past number of years, it's become known as "the fairy woods."

Acreman said there are up to 200 doors in the forest now, and a full-on fairy fairground was recently removed.

Naturally, there's been opposition to the evictions.
