First 'Dumb and Dumber To' Trailer Is Perfectly Awful
A horrible moment from the perfectly awful new 'Dumb and Dumber To' trailer.

Let's face it, Jim Carrey needs a hit.

You have to go back to 2003 -- that's practically 11 in math years -- to find a bona fide Carrey box-office smash with Bruce Almighty, which at $67 million was not only his best opening weekend ever, it was the best opening weekend in Jim Carrey history.

Down at No. 15 on the opening-weekend thingy is Dumb and Dumber, which debuted to a very modest $16 million in 1994. In the two decades since, several Carrey films have opened better, including Yes Man ($18.2 million), Mr. Popper's Penguins ($18.4 million), The Cable Guy ($19.8 million), Me, Myself and Irene ($24.2 million), and The Truman Show ($31.5 million).

And yet in the long run, none of those out-earned Dumb and Dumber, which was very slow. In its climb to seventh on Carrey's lifetime earners list at $127 million, that is.

And so 20 years later, we all get Dumber.

The first trailer for the sequel, which reunites Carrey with Jeff Daniels, is every bit as awful, absurd, gross, distasteful, clueless, embarrassing and hopelessly tone-deaf as fans of the original could possibly hope it to be. There is this moment in it that might make you decide not to have lunch today:

The trailer, which debuted Tuesday night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, is just. So.

Dumb.

In other words, Carrey may just be back in form. Oh and Jeff Daniels, to.
