Mashable partnered with FSCS to organize a #MashMeet in London last weekend.
Foodies and photographers from around the area gathered at Brockley Market for a few hours of shooting, learning, networking and of course tasting.
The message behind the meetup was a useful everyday reminder: Great food doesn't have to come at a high price. It's more than possible to cook a hearty lunch for less than the average cost of £6.67 (approximately $10).
The event also highlighted the important protection FSCS provides to people's savings in banks and building societies, should the worst happen. Putting budget-friendly food on the table enabled us to talk about money in a fun and inspiring way.
Eco chef Tom Hunt joined us as our on-site kitchen wizard. He took the #BudgetEatsMeet attendees on a shopping tour through the market, and then demonstrated how to whip up good, seasonal meals using the new ingredients.
His dishes included pheasant carpaccio with purple kale, teriyaki, date syrup, toasted seaweed and fresh turmeric; oysters with clementine and sumac; green tomato tartines and more.
We also had British food truck The Roadery on site, serving up warm drinks and delicious meals throughout the rainy hours of the meetup. Their food was inspired by some of London's best foodie Instagrammers -- you can find their recipes here.
