LONDON – It might come as a surprise to Game of Thrones viewers, but Emilia Clarke (aka Daenerys Targaryen) is definitely not a fan of TV sex scenes.

Despite Game of Thrones being relatively jam-packed when it comes to nudity and sex, Clarke has made it clear that she isn't keen on that sort of approach herself.

"Sex scenes should be more subtle," she told The Daily Mail. "I'm British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway -- I can't stand it."

Clarke has previously discussed the awkward scenes she had to film with Jason Momoa (who plays Khal Drogo) for the show's first season, and how they managed to overcome some of the embarrassment with the aid of an unusual prop.

"He decided to, for one of the scenes -- which was on his back and my face -- he decided to not use a modesty sock, but use a beautiful pink, fluffy sock," Clarke explained. "So getting that closeup from me, looking petrified and just like I didn't want it to happen was just lots of laughter."

Clarke -- who is rumoured to have said to the show's bosses, "I want to be known for my acting not my breasts," after her first couple of seasons in Thrones -- told The Daily Mail that most gratuitous sex scenes in film and TV are "usually just to attract an audience."

"I don't want to have sex thrown in my face and I've always thought the suggestion is so much more titillating than the act itself," she said.

"On screen, the subtler the better."
