[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]PointRoll CEO Chris Saridakis has just added a new title that he can hang on his wall. Gannett is appointing Saridakis to the post of chief digital officer, in an effort to expand its digital operations. The large media company which lords over 80 local newspapers including USA Today, is looking to make better of Internet media, distribution tactics and advertising methods, according to CNet.
Gannett has already been dabbling in several Internet-based services, like CareerBuilder, as a joint owner of a handful of websites. The media giant has also decided to expand local event site Metromix with its co-owner the Tribune as a way of reaching more consumers and expanding its online presence. Gannett is one of the last of the media powerhouses to delve deeper into Internet properties as providers of distribution channels as well as sources of revenue. Given Saridakis' experience with web-based and Internet-driven services, including PointRoll, DoubleClick and TechSolutions, the goal of developing marketing solutions throughout web properties is a given, considering Gannett's appointment of Saridakis.
