The 13 Icelandic Yule Lads who would scare the crap out of Santa

Ever wonder what a demented Santa might look like? Iceland has your answer.

Every December, there are those of us who get ourselves into the holiday spirit by trimming the tree, hanging christmas lights and telling children to be good because Santa is watching. Santa Claus, the harmless jolly old saint who brings us gifts (after breaking and entering, of course), would keep tabs on our good and bad deeds and reward us with gifts -- or leave us disappointed with a dusty ol' lump of coal.

The Yule lads, a mythical Icelandic family descendent of trolls serve the same purpose: scaring us into being on our best behavior. Through various offenses of theft and intrusion, they remind us to stay in line or pay the price of being encountered by one of these nefarious, creepy old tramps.
