Techdirt highlighted a glaringly obvious (but oft ignored) point this week on the subject of Web 2.0: network applications need a network connection. Since most people don't have internet access everywhere they go - and probably won't for a long time yet - it seems unlikely that mainstream users will seize upon the new generation of web-based apps with as much gusto as the early-adopters. But if the application can be used both online and offline, users get the best of both worlds. From the TechDirt post:
