Steve Jobs has said that there is a 3G iPhone in the works. There's still no word on exactly when it will be available to buyers, though it's expected to be ready some time late next year.

This confirms speculation that a 3G iPhone will be on its way, after Apple teamed up with InterDigital. The 2G EDGE-enabled iPhone will be available in the UK on November 9th. This is being launched initially instead of a 3G iPhone as Jobs said there are power issues with the 3G chipset, and it would be a drain on the unit's battery life. Since the iPhone advertises 8 hours of call time, this is an unavoidable issue for the time. The other announcement made by Jobs today is that Apple will be fighting hacks that unlock the iPhone.
