A new 9-pin dock connector, and five rows of apps on the home screen, are the latest revelations about iOS 6 and the upcoming iPhone 5. Both details were revealed in a beta build of iOS 6 provided to developers.

9to5 Mac discovered further evidence Tuesday that the next version of the iPhone would have a taller display. After some tweaks to the iOS simulator application found in the iOS development tools, the site was able to run a simulation of iOS 6 at the rumored 640 x 1136 resolution. The result is a screen that can handle five complete rows of icons.

The site also found evidence in the latest build of iOS 6 that Apple will be trading in its current 30-pin connector for a new 9-pin dock connector in the next generation of iPhones. A new connection that would make it impossible to use existing speakers, docks, and chargers without the use of an adapter converting it back to the traditional 30-pin, something that Apple will likely make available.

On Monday, a closer look at the iOS 6 beta release revealed that Apple would be removing the YouTube app –- a staple of the phone since its initial release in 2007 –- with the next generation of the iconic handset. The company has already acknowledged that it will be replacing Google Maps in iOS 6 with its own mapping application.

There are rumors that the iPhone 5 will be announced at an Apple event in San Francisco on Sept. 12. The phone is expected to be a complete overhaul of the current design, including a faster processor and LTE connectivity.
