While Apple was the first to get Paul McCartney's music from EMI and McCartney's MPL holding company, you still won't find his songs on iTunes, though it's already showing up on Apple's rival sites, including Napster, Rhapsody and Zune.

McCartney's 25-album solo back-catalog is being digitally re-issued, as well as his work with the band Wings. But the absence of McCartney's music on Apple is stirring up some speculation as to why Apple's first mover advantage has not paid off. Apple is rather interested in being the first company offering digital content through its iTunes store, which makes the story that much more juicy. Apple insists the plan to release McCartney's music on iTunes hasn't changed, and will be available in May.

In related news, Mcartney is also premiering the video for his debut track "Dance Tonight" from his upcoming album "Memory Almost Full," which will be released on Starbuck's Hear Music label, on YouTube. The video will be promoted through Director Videos slots on YouTube's front page. The video stars McCartney along with Natalie Portman and Mackenzie Crook. "Memory Almost Full" will be McCartney's 21st solo album, and is scheduled to be released in the US. on June 5th. Perhaps McCartney will further grow his empire online, as Bowey and Townshend have done.
