One of the more menacing NFL defenders of his generation, Jared Allen announced his retirement from professional football in classic fashion on Thursday.

He just ... rode off into the sunset. No -- literally! Well, almost. You see, he was going to ride off into the sunset. But weather canceled the sunset. So, he just ... kinda galloped off into the distance for a few seconds.

Even better.

Here's Allen's highly excellent retirement announcement, which he posted to Twitter on Thursday morning.

"I just want to say thank you for an amazing 12-year career,'' Allen explains in the clip. "This is the part where I was going to ride off into the sunset, but seeing how there is no sunset, I'm just going to ride off.''

Allen was the NFL's active sacks leader, and his final game was the Carolina Panthers' loss to the Denver Broncos is Super Bowl 50.

Is Allen a Hall of Famer? That's an interesting topic for debate. But he did just drop a Hall of Fame retirement announcement -- no debate there.
