A day after the Denver Broncos and coach John Fox "agreed on a mutual decision to part ways," the team's general manager, John Elway, held a press conference Tuesday to address the "mutual decision." He opened the press conference by thanking ... John Elway.
Of course, he meant to say "John Fox" -- but if you harbor doubts about the mutuality of the Broncos letting Fox go, it does appear to be quite the perfect Freudian slip.

Perhaps the separation really was "mutual," but it's hard not to read that terminology as a face-saving, euphemistic solid done for a coach who compiled a 46-18 record with the Broncos but oversaw two one-and-done playoff exits and a 35-point blowout loss to the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Hey, sometimes we all deserve to pat ourselves on the back.
