Add the Kentucky Derby to the growing list of attractions to shut out selfie stick-toting spectators.

Churchill Downs outlawed selfie sticks and drones on Thursday in a bid to beef up its security this year, according to The Courier-Journal.

The venerated racetrack joins a long line of stadiums, musical festivals and art museums to put the kibosh on the polarizing picture-taking accessory, including Coachella and the Smithsonian. Most of these venues say the gadget presents a safety hazard, but Coachella also calls the device "narcissistic" in its FAQ.

As for drones, the rule seems like somewhat of a no-brainer, but other high-profile sporting events have also felt the need to stress this point.

The selfie stick exploded in popularity toward the end of last year, as evidenced by the sea of the apparatuses at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. But some see the much-despised contraption as the troubling, logical extreme of a self-obsessed culture and worry, somewhat hyperbolically, that it heralds the decline of humanity as we know it.

The venue also put an end to re-entry for the first time in an effort to crack down on ticket scammers. A racetrack manager told the Courier-Journal that the old system made it too easy for racegoers to leave and counterfeit tickets.
