For poor kids, 'school is the only normal that they know'

Linda Cliatt-Wayman is the principal of Strawberry Mansion High School and has been a special education teacher working for years in low-performing, impoverished Philadelphia schools. Wayman encountered too many neglected children who endured abuse or were left to raise themselves, and she has spent her decades-long career demanding that students fight for their future. As a principal, she has transformed three low-performing schools, dramatically improving test scores and the rate at which students attend college.
