MySpace and the National Academy of Television are announcing a partnership today around the Broadband Emmy Awards, a user-generated version of the Emmys. Starting February 1st, video producers and filmmakers can submit their entries at the Emmys' MySpace page - these will then be judged by experts from the National Academy.

The 2007 Broadband Emmy Awards will be presented in categories including Daytime Entertainment, News & Information, Sports, and Public & Community Service. They'll use the MySpace Emmy profile to highlight videos for the Broadband Awards, they say, and focus on the various categories over the course of the year. It's an acknowledgment, of course, that a lot of talented filmmakers have made their home on the web, particularly social networks like MySpace Video and YouTube. MySpace previously hosted a Comedy Challenge with a TV tie-in, while YouTube hosted YouTube Underground to find emerging artists. It's surprising, in fact, that YouTube isn't yet part of the Emmys - the site is already a hub for filmmakers.

How many more competitions do we need on social networks before I can tick off my 2007 prediction that online contests will be huge? ;)
