Nepalese hindus decorated and worshipped cows this week on the third day of Tihar, called Gai Puja or "Cow Worship Day."
Cows are considered to be the incarnation of the Hindu god of wealth, Lord Laxmi. Nepalese devotees decorate the cows with marigold flower garlands and colored powders and offer the cows fresh fruits and vegetables.
The large five-day celebration called Tihar, is considered one of the most important Hindu festivals. Each day of Tihar is devoted to a different animal or object of worship, including cows, crows and dogs. The festival celebrates the powerful relationship between humans, gods and animals.
