Holiday Train Show: Ride through New York's Botanical Garden

Cue the nostalgia! Your favorite model trains are back this holiday season, as Saturday marked the opening of the New York Botanical Garden’s Holiday Train Show.

Now in its twenty-third year, the show celebrates New York City’s rich history of buildings and landmarks by recreating these iconic structures with plant material inside the Botanical Garden’s Conservatory.

“There’s no where else in New York you’re going to find buildings made of plants in this amount - in this large a scale,“ said Dante Burgos, one of the show’s engineers.

The show features over 20 trains and 150 miniature buildings from all five boroughs, with some highlights including Grand Central Station and the original Yankee Stadium. It even houses a replica of the Botanical Garden’s Conservatory, complete with the Garden Clock.

Every year the Artists’ Studio changes to showcase a new exhibit, and this year it’s hosting a miniature replica of the World’s Fair.

And if you think it’s just for kids, you’re mistaken. On select Friday and Saturday nights, the Botanical Garden hosts 21 and older Bar Car Nights, where adults can sip complimentary cocktails, watch ice sculpture carving demonstrations, listen to jazz and see fire and light performances from Cirque de Light.
