Mary Ellen Keating says that B&N has been running a $25 off/free shipping promotion on Nook Color to new members "for some time." All Things D had reported that shortly after Amazon's announcement, the bookseller circulated an email promotion for the device offering that discount plus free shipping,

Even with the promotion, Nook Color is $25 more expensive than Kindle Fire. Analysts on Wednesday speculated that B&N would have to reduce the price on that device and its entry-level Nook Simple Touch Reader (now selling for $139, which is $59 more than Amazon's entry-level Kindle). Since bn.com, the digital arm of the retailer that includes Nook products, has yet to turn a profit, though, that will be a difficult move for B&N.
