Human photographer George Steinmetz has taken a cue from New York City's main denizens by photographing the Big Apple from a pigeon's eye view.

According to Steinmetz's website, he wants his images to "capture the complexity of 21st-century New York, with its new skyline and waterfront landscape, dazzling contemporary architecture and historic buildings—along with parks and streets and rooftops used for every possible purpose, and the massive infrastructure that keeps it all going."

Steinmetz's newest book, New York Air, boasts 224 pages of New York's beauty from the sky. The photos included were taken from a helicopter, offering a unique point of view, from which regular New Yorkers rarely get to see their city.

While some show stressful crowds, like the below image which captures a Bryant Park movie screening, others show the cityscape that makes NYC so recognizable.

You may like looking up at the concrete jungle of skyscrapers, but you'll love looking down on them from above, too.
