Photagr is a new social bookmarking site for images trying to capitalize on Digg’s lack of a similar though much-requested feature. In typical social bookmarking fashion, users can submit photos through installable bookmarklets or a Firefox plugin. Rather than votes determining what is popular, Photagr uses the del.icio.us approach of featuring items with the most saves.

In addition to its social bookmarking features, Photagr offers some basic features for organizing photos such as categories and tags. To help protect copyrights, the site thumbnails images and links to the full-size versions on the original external site. This was deemed fair use several months back in the Google v. Perfect 10 case. There are also very basic user profiles where you can see the images that a user has bookmarked

The interface for Photagr is pretty sparse and lacking flair in parts, but until Digg adds a feature for digging images, the site has a chance to win a few users. Last week saw the launch of digpicz with the same concept, which seems to be gaining some traction.
