Platial Acquires Frappr to Dominate Social Mapping

Platial has bought Frappr, a social map community and widget network. Both Platial and Frappr are in the map mashup-making business, so the combined efforts of these two companies just makes one giant mapping service with a reported 15 million unique users every month and 100 million items having been geo-tagged. That now gives Platial a 25% ownership of the market.

Platial, which raised $2.4 million earlier this year, has continually launched updates and new features for offering social networkers new ways to incorporate maps into their online profiles, such as this TourMapper. Initially these widgets focused largely on MySpace.
