LONDON -- Potterheads were out in force over the weekend to play in the biggest ever British Quidditch tournament, which somewhat oddly took place at Wayne Manor.

24 teams from around Britain took part in the event at Wollaton Hall and Park in Nottingham, near the village of Gotham, where key scenes from The Dark Knight Rises were shot.

Hosted by the Nottingham Nightmares, all the teams played on Saturday before the top 16 advanced to the knockouts Sunday.

Potter-inspired team names included: the Bangor Broken Broomsticks, Durhamstrang and Kent’s Flying Chaucers.

Sadly IRL Quidditch doesn't have flying broomsticks, but players do run around with broomsticks between their legs. Described as a mix of handball, dodgeball and rugby, the fast-paced sport has a much wider support base in the U.S. than it does in Britain.

The tournament was won by the Southampton Quidditch Club who beat the Oxford University Quidditch Club.
