Two generations of Star Wars droids meet for the first time in a new ad for a British cell carrier, and they seem to hit it off.

In a scene reminiscent of one of the opening shots of the original trilogy, C-3PO -- sporting his mysterious red arm -- and R2-D2 wander lost across the sands of what appears to the desert planet of Jakku. An exasperated 3PO has of course given up all hope of the two ever finding their way when the spherical BB-8 comes whizzing by.

In an exchange of bleeps and whirs, the droids communicate for the first time -- Artoo apparently breaking the ice by way of a jab at his partner's directional skills.

"So tell us, what could be so important?," C-3PO asks to end the commercial on a cliffhanger.

The 40-second video debuted on the telecom O2's Twitter feed on Friday.

As excitement over Force Awakens nears fever pitch, partner brands like Verizon and Duracell have been flooding the airwaves with invented footage sometimes filmed with the same sets and production tools behind the actual films on loan from the studio.

No need to look away. Mr Abrams definitely didn't let us put any spoilers in there!— O2 in the UK (@O2) November 20, 2015
