LONDON -- This one looks set to run and run.
Following the news that Caitlyn Jenner responded to Ricky Gervais' joke about her at the Golden Globes, the Brit has hit back once again, saying on Twitter that "sacred cows should be milked for laughs."
The tweet has since been deleted.
The controversy started on Sunday night, when Golden Globes host Gervais included Jenner in a series of jokes about fellow celebrities during the ceremony.
He said: "I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously. Now Caitlyn Jenner, of course. What a year she’s had. She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn’t do a lot for women drivers, but you can’t have everything, can ya?”
A lot of people took offence at the joke, but Gervais, posted a series of tweets explaining how he didn't care if anyone was offended.
Suggesting a joke about Caitlin Jenner is automatically transphobic is like suggesting a joke about Bill Cosby is automatically racist.— Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) January 12, 2016
Viewer: I'm offended by a joke you made. Me: So? Viewer: You gonna apologise? Me: No. Viewer: Then I won't watch you again. Me: Correct— Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) January 12, 2016
Jenner remained silent on the issue until Thursday, when she was onstage at the Television Critics Association in California to talk about the second season of I Am Cait. On the topic of Gervais' joke she said:
"I think what I’m going to do is call the Golden Globes and see if they need a new host for next year."
"We’ll solve that problem.”
In response, Gervais shared a link to a Pink News story on her comments Friday morning, followed later by the sacred cows tweet.
He also tweeted a direct response to Jenner's statement, writing, "Please, please, please let her host The Golden Globes. Just don't let her drive." He was likely referring to a fatal car crash Jenner was involved in last year.

In response to Jenner "breaking" her silence, Gervais wrote, "At last. She always brakes too late."
