SAN FRANCISCO -- Mired in an historic drought, residents of the Bay Area lost their collective mind today when dozens of water droplets fell from the sky in a strange event meteorologists are calling a "rain fall."
The droplets, unanimously believed to be water, began falling shortly before 12 p.m. local time, while a majority of San Franciscans were heading to lunch.
Some of the elusive H2O was caught on video.

Residents of the Bay Area expressed on Twitter their unmitigated joy at encountering the long-lost meteorological phenomenon. They shared their expressions of fear, elation and confusion, pushing "#rain" to a trending topic in short order.

According to the National Weather Service, some stations in the area actually received measurable rainfall.

According to NOAA records, the Downtown San Francisco station has measured only 3.21 inches of rain in 2015. At time of writing, streets in the city center were slightly damp and scattered umbrellas were raised.
