Canismo is one of many movements that is using art to support and promote the adoption of shelter dogs. The dogs created 18 unique masterpieces that surely rival the Jackson Pollocks sitting on museum walls. And, don't worry, the artists created animal-friendly (and edible) paint specifically for this project.
The imagery used is a deep metaphor for the struggle facing sheltered dogs, from overcrowding to breed prejudice. "The shake of the paint reveals a remarkable exercise of freedom, where each drop of ink bears the stain of prejudice. The combination of different colors in the paintings shows the mixture of breeds, as random and as beautiful as each mongrel dog."
