The Tamagotchi has returned -- again.

Those who want to relive the experience of taking care of the favorite handheld virtual pets of the '90s can now do so from their Apple Watch. Tamagotchi Classic, the iOS app based on the original toy now has a version for Apple's smartwatch.

Much like the existing iPhone game, the watch app notifies you when your Tamagotchi needs attention (a lot) and allows you to take care of certain needs from your wrist. You can feed hungry pets and, yes, clean up their poop soon after.

As with many watch versions of apps, Tamagotchi on the wrist appears to have a more limited feature set than the iOS version. You can't play with the pet and the lack of in-app animations limits how much Tamagotchis can respond to your actions, according to The Verge.

But when paired with the accompanying iPhone app, you can get the full Tamagotchi experience -- incessant notifications and all. The company also makes an Android version of the 99-cent app, though it doesn't yet have an Android Wear-compatible counterpart.

The watch app isn't the first time Bandai Namco, the company behind the apps, has revamped Tamagotchi in recent years. The company released an updated version of the egg-shaped toys earlier this year and makes a suite of other Tamagotchi-themed apps.
