Runnin' Down a No. 1: Tom Petty Finally Earns Top Spot on Albums Chart

Tom Petty has finally ran down the dream of snagging a chart-topping album.

None of Petty's first 12 albums -- the first of which came out in 1976 -- with The Heartbreakers or his three solo efforts ever reached No. 1 on Billboard's album chart. But this week, his 13th group record, Hypnotic Eye, achieved what those other albums could not.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' Hypnotic Eye tops the Billboard 200 chart with 131,000 copies sold in seven days since its debut, triumphing over an album from Eric Clapton & Friends (61,000) and the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack (60,000).
