The way you know a travel video is truly remarkable is when you feel like you visited a place after watching it.

Leonardo Dalessandri's "Watchtower of Turkey" fits the bill.

"I couldn't be happier with the outcome," Dalessandri told Mashable about the roughly three-and-a-half minute video he posted on Vimeo. "A passion for film and music, and the desire to experiment with new techniques, have always been a part of me."

The footage was captured over a 20-day journey around the country using a GoPro and Panasonic GH3.

Dalessandri said he didn't use a tripod or steady cam, but he's excited to use a Sony a7S for his next travel video.

He first got into photography when his father gave him a camera as a present. He later went on to study film at the University of Parma in Italy.

Dalessandri told Mashable that light is very important when he shoots.

"I don't think [light] is everything. However, a good shot with the right light will definitely give you the 'wow' factor," he said.

"The choice of a subject and location is very personal, and probably differs from filmmaker to filmmaker. My work aims to explore a subject that I'm usually most curious about: the people. I'm always seeking to capture a person's beauty. Maybe that is why in my videos I reserve a lot of space for the people to fill. Afterwards the shots of landscapes, architecture, nature, skies etc. all help me to tie this collection of little stories together in a harmonious way."

Dalessandri shot enough footage in Turkey to make a two-hour movie -- collecting about 4 terabytes of video -- but selected what appears in the "Watchtower of Turkey" video in order to tell a story. He edits with Final Cut Pro X and After Effects, and has been experimenting with sound design on Logic Pro.

He had the idea for a "watchtower" series after finishing the Morocco video, he said.
