LONDON -- More than a million Volkswagen diesel vehicles in Britain are affected by the emissions scandal, the company said Wednesday.
More than half a million Volkswagen passenger cars as well as 393,450 Audis, 76,773 SEATs, 131,569 Škodas and 79,838 Volkswagen commercial vehicles are affected by the rigging scandal.
Earlier this month, a report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency revealed some VW diesel cars were equipped with software designed to defeat the emissions-testing process, showing lower emissions numbers than in actual road use.
More than 11 million vehicles worldwide are thought to be fitted with the faulty software -- in the U.S. authorities have said there are 482,000 cars affected.
Volkswagen's new CEO has promised a fix for the cars affected by October.
In its statement today, VW says the vehicle identification numbers of the cars affected will be given to dealers and customers will be contacted.
