U.S. Launches Airstrikes Against Iraq Militants

The U.S. reignited its involvement in Iraq after launching an airstrike against Islamic State militants in the northern part of the country on Friday. As it's after midnight in Iraq, we've ended our live coverage for the day. See how Friday's events played out below.

The U.S. launched two rounds of airstrikes in northern Iraq on Friday, Aug. 8, targeting a group of militants terrorizing the region.

FAA has banned U.S. flights over Iraqi airspace.

U.S. also dropped humanitarian aid to a minority group that is stranded on a mountain in the north, although hundreds of the group's women were kidnapped by militants.
