The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has released an updated draft of Widgets 1.0 Requirements in an effort to reach its goal of offering a set of standards for widget development.

With the rampant use and distribution of widgets, its important for a respected organization to release a set of standards that developers and others involved in the industry can reference. The Widgets 1.0 Requirements draft has guidelines for standards for scripting, digitally signing, securing, packaging and deploying widgets. There's a focus on the security of widgets, as this is a major concern for publishers and social networking creators, especially when it comes to the various types of languages in which a widget can be written.

The Widgets 1.0 Requirements documentation will provide helpful guidelines and standards for developers and publishers alike. The W3C has also released standards documentation for RIA and AJAX, as well as eight new standards for XML.
