Wantz.it Makes Wish Lists from your Del.icio.us Bookmarks

What's the best part about Christmas? Making Christmas lists. I've already shared my two cents on the matter of wish lists, but there's a new tool called Wantz.it that makes the creation of a wish list so simple. It leverages your Del.icio.us account to build up your wish list. Any bookmarks you submit to Del.icio.us with a "dowant" tag will be automatically added to your Wantz.it account. Simple.

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]So what about your friends? They can reserve items they'd like to get for you by clicking on the "Reserve" tab that's present beside each item on your Wantz.it account. Click this tab, though, and you'll be prompted with a rather personal question so that the system can be verified that you know the person you're reserving a gift for. We'd hate to have some Grinch out there reserving gifts for people they don't know, and then not actually purchase any. This prompt should help protect from wayward mouse clicks as well.

In all this simplicity however, the sharing tools for wish lists just aren't there, and the aesthetics are pretty basic. There are no wish list widgets, no capabilities of adopting others' items for your own, and no features that are in fact independent of Del.icio.us. Wantz.it is quite reminiscent of the mountain of Twitter parasites that cropped up over the summer, using the updating micro-blog to create their own application for some semblance of communication or media-sharing purposes. I'd love to see this simplistic way of collecting wish list items expanded to other bookmarking sites, and social networking sites as well.
