Wilco surprises fans with free 'Star Wars' album you can download right now

When it comes to surprise albums, Yoda would advise, "Do. Or do not. There is no try."

Well, Wilco chose do on Thursday with the unexpected release of Star Wars, the alt-rockers' ninth studio album. The 11-song project is the band's first release since 2011.

Star Wars is free to download at Wilco's website for a limited time.

"Why release an album this way and why make it free? Well, the biggest reason, and I'm not sure we even need any others, is that it felt like it would be fun. What's more fun than a surprise?" frontman Jeff Tweedy explained to fans on Wilco's Facebook page.
