WiMAX will serve as Sprint's fourth generation (4G) wireless option. Verizon and AT&T have both selected long term evolution (LTE) as their 4G solutions.

Sprint has notably allied itself with Clearwire, Comcast and Time Warner Cable to build the country's WiMAX infrastructure. Comcast and Time Warner Cable will each augment their cable service by providing 4G wireless access to their customers.
