This week, we see an update to the storied Nazi-killing Wolfenstein franchise with Wolfenstein: The New Order. William "BJ" Blazkowicz comes back to a world covered in Nazis in 1960, and must resume his role as an asskicker who who lives to clean Nazi blood off his boots.

But it seems BJ has gotten a huge facelift despite his age. Wolfenstein 3D was first released on PCs in 1992, and was the first real entry into the first-person shooter genre. Back then, the simulated 3D was a lot different and the characters were made up of blocky pictures, but they still got the point across.

Take a trip back through memory lane with these comparison shots of the 22-year difference.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is out this week for PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
