The story emerging in the latter half of Friday was that the talks between Microsoft and Yahoo aren't quite as active as the NY Post story led readers - and Wall St - to believe. In fact, they're not happening.
The real story, says the WSJ, is that merger discussions are "no longer active". They're throwing it in the "everyone talks to everyone" category, they say, rather than the NY Post's take that talks have ramped up. Lob this one back on the "maybe, someday" pile, they argue, along with a few hundred other acquisition rumors that never came true.
