There's no evidence behind those 'Star Wars' boycott tweets

No, Rogue One writers didn't reshoot the movie to include anti-Trump scenes.

The so-called alt-right have found another target for their Twitter trolling.

This time it's the turn of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a prequel to the insanely popular franchise which is set for release on Dec. 16.

Jack Posobiac, who describes himself as special projects director for a group called Citizens for Trump, claimed on Twitter that Star Wars writers re-wrote Rogue One to add anti-Trump scenes calling him a racist.

He even live-streamed his conspiracy theory in an 18-minute Periscope video.

The claims have been retweeted and shared with the hashtag #DumpStarWars by many Trump supporters and those belonging to the so called alt-right, which includes white supremacists and white nationalists.

It's likely that Posobiac and his followers are upset at Star Wars screenwriters Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta, who switched their Twitter avatars to images of the logo of the Rebel Alliance with a safety pin hooked through it, after Donald Trump won the U.S. election in November.

The safety pin became a symbol of solidarity with immigrants who were subjected to racism and intimidation in the aftermath of the Brexit vote in the UK. It resurfaced after Trump's victory for similar reasons.

Weitz also tweeted that the Empire "is a white supremacist organization".

It is true that Rogue One underwent extensive reshooting this summer, causing frustration to some fans. But there is no evidence that the purpose was to include an anti-Trump message.

Furthermore, every other Star Wars movie underwent multiple reshoots. George Lucas even went so far as to add scenes to Empire Strikes Back.

Weitz himself weighed in on the rumours that Rogue One contained any anti-Trump messages:
