The best TV to watch in June

Once upon a time the summer TV scene was as terrible as CBS's diversity numbers (zing!), but now it's when cable and streaming break out the heavy hitters for hungry audiences.

While you could spend June lapping up a ton of new Netflix offerings or simply counting down the time until Game of Thrones, let us offer some direction -- and recommend some of the best television available this month.

I'm Dying Up Here - Showtime

The Jim Carrey-produced drama is a bit of a slow burn, but hits its groove several episodes in. Young comedians vie for the public spotlight during the standup boom of the 1970s -- it's a happy middle ground between serious comedy history and actual standup.

Orange is the New Black Season 5 - Netflix

We left off with Daya getting hold of a gun and the women of Litchfield furious with their prison management and Poussey's death. The escalating tension of Season 4 breaks from the very moment Season 5 starts and unfolds in real time over a three-day prison riot.

Orphan Black Season 5 - BBC America

The final season of clone club is one of its best, and the finale promises to be as intense as ever. Helena is back on a murderous rampage and there are still more clones. Will anyone survive? Can Felix just live in peace?

Preacher Season 2 - AMC

Season 1 was designed as a kind of prequel to Garth Ennis’ beloved comics, introducing viewers to the effed-up world of preacher Jesse Custer, his kick-ass paramour Tulip, and their boozy Irish vampire sidekick Cassidy. Season 2 launches our troublesome trio out on the road in search of God, but matters are complicated when they realized that they’re being stalked by a killer cowboy from Hell. GLOW Season 1 - Netflix

GLOW may be banking on viewers' attraction to the wild, weird world of female wrestling, but what keeps you hooked is the eclectic cast of women, a televised Whip It driven ultimately by the conflict between Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin).

And yeah, there's some crazy '80s wrestling.
