Of course Cate Blanchett joined an Adele performance at a drag show at Stonewall in a pussy hat

I like the hat.

There are certain basic comforts we, as a species, have come to rely on, like anesthetics during surgery and Netflix. Now we can add watching footage of Cate Blanchett at drag shows whenever we're sad to the list.

Blanchett stopped by the historic Stonewall Inn on Monday night to perform in a benefit drag show, and, because she is incapable of failure, her efforts were nothing short of a masterpiece. The show raised our spirits and a chunk of change for Newtown Action Alliance, which provides support to communities affected by gun violence.

Blanchett lip synced Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me," which you can certainly interpret as a dig to a certain Commander in Chief on his first and possibly last President's Day in office if that makes you feel better.

Blanchett also joined in the fun for a rendition of Adele's "Hello." The actress contributed her Academy-Award winning smoldering stare and the performers wore coordinated pussy hats.

As Carol Aird in the film Carol would say, "I like the hat."

At Mashable, we choose to believe this performance doubled as a birthday gift for her Oceans 8 co-star, Rihanna, as the potential of their friendship is the subject of many pages of unpublished fan fiction.
