These thieves cleaned up at the Bad Criminal Awards.

Documentarian Brett Hansen was heartbroken when one of his Northwest Regional Emmy statuettes (he's won two) was stolen from his apartment in Olympia, Washington. Hansen didn't expect to see the award again -- and law enforcement wasn't hopeful either.

But they didn't count on such brash criminals.

On a whim, Hansen decided to search for "Emmy" on Craigslist. Sure enough, the missing statuette immediately popped up. It was listed for $3,500.

Hansen haggled with the sellers for a while, and they agreed to lower the price to a reasonable $3,000.

"It was weird because he was offering me a discount on my own Emmy," Hansen told The Olympian.

But Hansen agreed to make the trade. He met the three sellers in Lacey, a suburb of Olympia -- and he brought detectives.

Sure enough, an Emmy with the winners' nameplate removed was in the front seat of the sellers' car.

After the sellers were interviewed by authorities, one was arrested on an outstanding warrant. At the time of writing, the other two have not been taken into custody.

The Emmy is now in the possession of the Olympia Police Department until the investigation is complete.

In the meantime, city officials are having fun joking about the criminals on Facebook. "The Emmy for Dumbest Criminal goes to the guy who stole this and then immediately tried to sell it on Craigslist," they wrote.
