An 8-year-old girl pulled an ancient sword out of a lake, and she's our hero now

And of course her name is Saga.

Good news everyone, we have a new world leader!

An 8-year-old girl pulled an ancient Viking sword out of a lake during her summer vacation, securing her destiny as savior of the world.

Saga Vanecek -- because of course her name is Saga -- unearthed the sword in Tånnö, Sweden while skipping rocks. She told the Local that she found "some kind of stick."

"I picked it up and was going to drop it back in the water, but it had a handle, and I saw that it was a little bit pointy at the end and all rusty," she said. Instead of a stick, she pulled out what authorities believe is a thousand-year-old weapon. "I held it up in the air and I said 'Daddy, I found a sword!'"

Saga's father, Andy Vanecek, thought the relic was a toy, but neighbors and one of his colleagues believed that it could be real. He reported it to the authorities, who took it to Jönköpings Läns Museum for an inspection.

According to the Local, the museum originally said the sword was at least 1,000 years old. But a deeper look indicates that it could have been made before the Viking Age, in 5 or 6 AD.

Detailing the preserved wood and metal encasing the sword, museum spokesperson Mikael Nordström told the Local that historians are "very keen to see the conservation staff do their work and see more of the details of the sword."

It's possible that Saga was able to find the sword because the tide was so low. Archaeologists dug in the area and found a prehistoric brooch from "the same period as the sword," according to Nordström, which means that the lake could be a "place of sacrifice."

"At first we thought it could be graves situated nearby the lake," he said. "But we don't think that anymore."

Twitter users agreed: Saga needs to be crowned, like right now.

Saga, meanwhile, kept the discovery quiet until the museum officially announced it. She only told her best friend, who she "really trusts." Her class celebrated the discovery with an ice cream party on Thursday.

"They thought it was very fun and interesting to know about my story," Saga said.

The 8-year-old was born and raised in Minnesota, but moved to Sweden last year. Her family moved to be closer to her mother's side of the family.

"The cool thing is that I'm a huge Minnesota Vikings fan," Saga enthused. "And this looks just like a Viking sword!"
