'Westworld' actress reveals she was raped, shares inspiring message

With a bright light being shown on her once again thanks to HBO's Westworld, Evan Rachel Wood is not shying away from speaking out.

Wood revealed details about her former relationship with Marilyn Manson, career moves, and her sexuality in an interview with Rolling Stone—but also took some time to share her painful experience with "physical, psychological, sexual" abuse and rape she experienced when younger.

The actress posted the full email she sent the RS reporter to Twitter, courageously expanding upon the article's summation of her experience.

"Well, since everything is out in the open now, figured I would share the confession letter I wrote to Rolling Stone in its entirety," she said.

Wood explains her initial hesitance in sharing that she was raped, explaining she did not want to be accused of speaking out for attention or face comments that belittled her traumatic experience.

"I don't believe we live in a time where people can stay silent any longer," she wrote. "I certainly can't. Not given the state our world is in with it's blatant bigotry and sexism."

"Yes. I have been raped," she clarified to the Rolling Stone reporter and fans. "By a significant other while we were together, and on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar."

In the piece, Wood explains that at 22 years old, she attempted suicide. The sexual assault she experienced was before this, and in the email she explains that it may have factored into her attempt.

"I am still standing. I am alive. I am happy. I am strong. But I'm still not ok," she continued before explaining that the "pressure to just get over it should be lifted."

After bravely sharing her story, Wood announced she would be stepping away from social media for some time. "Thank you for your support and courageous stories," she wrote. "You are not alone."
